At Pendennis Castle you can see a Tudor Gun Deck in action and see how the Guardhouse was equipped during the 1st World War. Launceston Castle was built on a natural mound. The castle is a 13th century round tower. You can climb to the top via a dark internal passage. Carnglaze consists of 3 underground caverns. You will be taken on a guided tour that lasts 45mins. The tour takes you through the 3 vast caverns created by slate miners. Mount Edgcumbe House was built in the 1500`s, restored after WWII. Visit the old sawmill and even try some of the machines. The Levant beam engine is in a small engine house on top of the cliffs. After sitting idle for 60 years it was resored to working order by volunteers. Now you can see the old engine in action. St Mawes is a well preserved fortress from Henry VIII. Built between 1539 and 1545. St Mawes Castle is a clover leaf shape and was designed to mount guns that could sink ships. Jamaica Inn was a coaching Inn built in 1750. It is now a Hotel that is reportedly haunted. You can visit the Smugglers Museum and watch the film. The Lizard Lighthouse was commissioned in 1752 and was in operation for 250 years. The twin towered lighthouse sits at the most southerly tip of mainland britain. This is an iron age settlement last occupied about 2000 years ago. The village contained stone-walled houses that are found only on the Lands End Peninsula and the Isles of Scilly.
