  Arlington Court is a Regency house containing varied treasures. You can picnic or play in the picturesque garden. The carriage museum has a carriage for every occassion, it is sometimes posible to take a ride in one of these. Arlington Court and Carriage Museum   Explore above and below the 5 decks of this ship. See the captains and officers cabins, weapons, tools, artefacts, ropes hauled by the sailors, the creak of the timbers, voices of the crew, treasures pirates and more. There are hands on exhibits. This replica has been here since 1964. The Golden Hind   There are a number different tours to choose from. Check schedule for tours and times. All tours are on foot and usually 90mins long.   Visit Dinosaur World in Torquay for some indoor dinosaur fun. The exhibition is packed with models, fossils and interactive play areas. Climb on life-sized dinosaurs, touch the giant hairy pre-historic spider and face the awesome roaring T-Rex. Uncover real fossils and enjoy the family quiz. Dinosaur World   At the House of Marbles you can watch the glass blowing from the viewing gallery. Visitors may wander around the old pottery buildings and enjoy the museums of glass, games, marbles and Bovey Pottery. See the collection of marble runs and the giant floating marble.New play area now open. House of Marbles   Hour long tours can be taken in Beer Quarry Caves. The large man-made complex of underground caverns was first worked by the Romans. Stone has been used for Exeter Cathedral, St Pauls, Westminster Abbey etc. Wear warm clothing.   Construction of Dartmoor Prison started in 1806 and took three years. This Devon museum reflects the heritage of HMP Dartmoor from Prisoner of War Depot to the present day. There are interesting artefacts to look at from both the past and the present. Quiz available for junior visitors. HM Dartmoor Prison Museum   Learn about 40 years of history at Dartington Crystal. Watch the Master Engraving Demonstration. Have a go at glass blowing (booking advisable) or have your hand or foot cast in glass. You could also paint your own glass or create something in the jewellery room. Dartington Crystal   Torrington 1646 makes history fun. Travel back to the 17th Century with costumed charaters and experience life in the Civil War. Learn about the correspondnce between Frances (the first countess) and Jane Austen. Check the events calendar for family events incl. Wizard school, Pirates and Princesses day. 3.5 miles east of Plymouth city centre. Saltram House   See a life sized street with Victorian shops or the 28 ft model railway. World War I trench and militaria displays. A 40`s/50`s shopping arcade. Fantasy land has places from around the world that spring to life when you push the buttons. Steamship memorabilia and more. Cafe on site for refreshments. Bygones   Cobbaton Combat Collection covers mainly World War II and the years 1939-1945. This tank museum in Devon has more than just tanks, you will see tanks, guns, helmets, artillery, grenades and bombs, ration books, gas masks, uniforms and blackout lamps.   This Plymouth museum has nine permanent galleries with thousands of objects and artworks to view. They also have varied exhibitions. Events that take place occasionally may include family friendly activities such as storytelling or art sessions. A great indoor option if its raining in Plymouth. Plymouth City Museum & Art Gallery   The Merchant`s House is an enchanting Plymouth museum. It is a 16th/17th century residence. It was home to three Plymouth mayors. The house is packed with old curiosities and everyday items including a huge dolls house from the 1870`s. You will also find a Victorian school room and a local chemist`s shop. Merchants House   Learn about renewable energy in an unspoilt environment. You can see the 1952 flood level and tour the lower gorge, passing the hydroelectric turbines.   The Mythical Garden Sculpture Exhibition is held at Stone Lane Gardens, the five acre woodland and water garden. The sculptures are set amongst the Birch and Alder trees providing a pleasant, natural frame for each piece on display. Open from May - Sept. Mythical Garden Sculpture Exhibition   This small and unusual museum in Devon is housed in an old merchants house dated 1640. Dartmouth Museum has a superb collection of ships in bottles, marine and local artefacts. One of the galleries still has the original wood panelling and plaster ceiling from the 1600`s. Dartmouth Museum   Visit the Edwardian House of Otto Overbeck. Listen to the giant 1890`s music box and view his collections. The gardens are exotic.   Discover the history of Mid Devon. Displays include the `Tivvy Bumper`GWR Steam Engine, local industries, farm wagons, agricultural history and everyday life of Mid Devon folk. There are also temporary exhibitions. Museum open Feb -Dec. Museum of Mid Devon Life   This museum is dedicated to the veterans of the United States Fleet Air Wing 7 and RAF personnel who served on the only American Navy Air Base comissioned on UK soil in WWII. Many relics from the war (often discovered in and around the airfield) displayed in cabinets. Dunkeswell Memorial Museum Devon   This collection captures the magic of a bygone era with ehibits, artwork displays and vintage engineering. This indoor attraction covers 45,000 sq ft and provides an opportunity to view the fairground heritage. Check the website for detaills of special events.   Braunton & District Museum helps you learn about the towns past. The Great Field is one of only two remaining examples of saxon strip farming. Brauntons maritime heritage is also displayed with hand made scale models of many of the Braunton vessels. Braunton & District   Burton Art Gallery & Museum houses Water and Oil paintings, Ceramics, Prints, Decorative Arts, Social History items, Coins and Geological items. Many artefacts reflect Bidefords heritage and came from the original Bideford Museum. Childrens workshops run occaisionally. Burton Art Gallery & Museum   This museum houses collections and display which cover the natural and human history of North Devon.   The Cookworthy Museum of Rural Life is housed in the Old Grammar School. It is a family friendly museum. There is a quiz, a victorian kitchen and costumes to try on. There is a range of collections and a local history archive. Cookworthy Museum   You will find more than 300 sculptures in the 10 acres of garden.Children are welcomed to learn about modern art and to experience large sculptures but are asked not to touch, climb on, swing from or otherwise put sculptures under stress. Broomhll Sculpture Gardens   In Ilfracombe museum the main gallery has loads of bugs to look at. There are hands on exhibitions, drawers of butterflies, beetles and spiders and a childrens quiz.   This Maritime Museum covers the history of North Devon from the invasion of the Danes in 848 to present day shipbuilding. Models and photographs are used and subjects covered include the Tudor period of Grenville and Armada, smuggling, rope making, wreck and rescue and more. Tel : 01237 474852   The museum exhibitions are arranged in a series of small rooms. Every year something new is added. In the GWR room there is a working siignal box and a railway simulator, so you can drive the route between Newton Abbot and Exeter St Davids.. Newton Abbot Town & GWR Museum   The museum is housed in an old granary, with its cobbled courtyard, built in 1811. Discover what happened to the Dartmoor environment over time.   The museum has over 30 portraits of locally owned and built ships. Also information on a number of shipwrecks, the most significant of which was the loss of the Salcombe lifeboat William and Emma. Open from Easter to end Oct. Salcombe Maritime & Local History Museum   This museum has a number of wonderful old photographs from the area. Other displays include the Roman site at Honeyditches, the Natural History of the area and a display of Victorian Costumes. Admission free, donations welcomed. Limited opening times, check website. Seaton Museum   Find out about the shipwreck discovered by a schoolboy just off the coast in Teignmouth. Discover more about local Maritime, Railway, Boat Building and Air History. There are hands on games, puzzles and quizzes. Mortehoe Heritage Centre   Topsham Museum, housed in a late 17th Cenury building, focuses mainly on Topshams maritime history. You may visit the furnished period rooms of the original house. Other exhibits include wildlife of the Exe Estuary, local trades and memorabilia of film star Vivien Leigh.
