  Catch the sandbanks ferry to Brownsea Island, home to the endangered red squirrel. Visitors center, gift and coffee shops available. Brownsea Island   The Blue Pool is a beautiful pool surrounded by 25 acres of heathland with paths. Children can hunt for model squirrels in trees or play in 1 of 3 play areas. The Blue Pool   Abbotsbury subtropical gardens is a magnificent 20 acre garden. Many rare and exoctic plants. There are garden walks and beautiful woodland valley views.   There are formal gardens to walk through. At Kingston Maurward Animal Park there are donkeys, ponies goats, pigs and smaller animals. Children can handle animals sometimes. Kingston Maurward Animal Park   Compton Acres is a spectacular garden with a japanese, italian and heather garden, a wooded valley, a rock and water garden and a kids play area. Compton Acres   Visit Heritage Coast Dorset. This seaside village is on a world heritage site. Fossils can be found on the beach as they are constantly washed from the cliffs.   The Macmillan way, Abbotsbury to Evershot.  
  This is a great place for Families. Woodland Explorer backpacks available to hire. Childrens activity books for Clifftop and Woodland Trails for £1 available from visitors centre. Durlston Country Park   Radipole Lake has specially designed family trails and in the holidays family activities such as pond dipping and bug hunts. Wildlife Explorer backpacks are available for free loan during visits. Radipole Lake Nature Reserve RSPB   The Macmillan Way network of paths crosses England. The part through Dorset runs from Abbotsbury to Evershot If you like walking with your kids then this may be a great opportunity to take in some glorious countryside.   Find woodlands, marshlands and formal gardens in Upton Country Park. Unfortunately the peacocks are now gone. No playground but lots of space for ball games. Cycling permitted on marked routes. Orienteering pack £1 available from tearooms. Upton Country Park   Avon Heath Country Park is dominated by heather and contains miles of tracks. There is a visitors centre. Entrance to the park is free but there is a charge for parking. You can also hire a barbeque. Avon Heath Country Park   Kingcombe Meadows Nature Reserve is still managed as a tradiditional working farm. Wildflowers, butterflies and birds may be seen here. There are limited tracks across the meadows and also a visitors centre. Kingcombe Meadows Nature Reserve
