| Cleeve Common is an open are of grassland and forms part of the Cotswold Hills. The comons cover an area of 1000 acres and the highest point is 330m a.s.l. Activities to do on the common include walking, kite flying, tobogganing (only after snow), ball games and cycling. Keep dogs on leads near livestock. Cleeve Common | Dyrham Park is a late 17th century home, set in a deer park. Famly fun in the Old Lodge play area. There are park trails to follow and park and garden tracker packs are available. Check the events schedule for free guided tours of the park, gardens and nature trail. (normal entrance fee applies). Dyrham Park | The Forest of Dean has a number of varied landcapes and covers 35 square miles.. There are a number of paths to choose from for walking or rambling, with 12 easy walksThere are a large number of outdoor activities available in the forest (check leaflet). | The Severn Bore is a naturally occurring tidal wave that is produced by a rising tide forcing a large volume of water through a narrowing channel. The wave can reach 2 meteres high and travels at about 16km\hr. See the forecast to find out the times and places of where to watch it. There is no Bore upstream of Gloucester. Severn Bore | There are over 60 nature reserves throughout the county. Access is free to all but rely on membership to keep their conservation work going. The nature reserves range from ancient woodlands to wildflower meadows. Take a walk in one of the resrves and hunt for flowers, birds or other wildlife. Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust | The Cotswolds area is designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are Downloadable walks including 12 easy to follow walks and walks on wheels (for wheelchairs, buggys etc). If you can walk 10 miles there is a guided walk on limited dates. | At this park you will find a number of circular trails marked (30mins to 1 hr), info on posters at visitors centre all year. Family trail and Hill Fort trail suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. All terrain mobiliy buggy for hire but membership and pre-booking req. (for older family members). Visitor Centre open Apr-Sept. Well behaved dogs welcome. Crickley Hill Country Park | Beechenhurst Lodge is a great starting point for a number of forest trails. There is a play area, picnic tables, cafe and BBQ`s for hire. Also the 13m Adventure Tower is pay and play. From here you can go along the famous sculpture trail (trail leaflet is available for £1). There is also the speculation trail and the Beechenhurst to Speech house link path. Beechenhurst Lodge Visitor Centre | Located in the Forest of Dean at Puzzlewood there is a mile of meandering pathways to explore the forest. You can walk through gulley`s of mossy rocks, twisted roots of yew trees, bridges, lookouts and more. As well as the wood there are pony rides and animals to see. | Robinswood Hill Country Park has 250 acres of countryside. There are great views of the surrounding area from Robinswood Hill, on a clear day you can see the Severn Bridges. There are waymarked nature, geology and horse trails. The Rare Breeds centre in the park is also open for visitors. Free entry. Robinswood Hill Country Park | This is a city-centre farm in St James Park. Open Mon-Sat from Mar - Nov. James City Farm & Community Gardens | The lakes here were constructed for the locals and have become very popular. Boating activities possible on lower lake. There are three walking trails and ramblers routes. You will find picnic tables with views over the lake and maybe with the odd duck nearby. There is also a signed dog dip area where dogs can swim. | Visit recommended in spring. You can follow trails and try and spot redstarts, tits, ravens, buzzards or sparrowhawks. The Nature Reserve is open at all times, year-round. | Gloucester Park is close to the city centre. There are opportunities for walking and picnicking. The facilities include a children`s play area, a kickabout area, an aviary, toilets, bowling green and a cricket pitch. There is a bandstand which you can hire out free. There is also a memorial garden. Gloucester Park | Clearwell Caves is an extensive natural cave system. This ancient mine workings consists of impressive caverns and winding passageways. There are nine well lit caverns to visit, the visitor centre, Blacksmith workshop, Ochre workshop and a childrens play area on the surface site. Clearwell Caves | This is a famous viewpoint 120m above the gorge of the River Wye. Take a riverside or woodland walk to enjoy the scenery. Peregrine Falcons nest in the cliffs nearby. | Here you will find 600 acres of trees including Giant Redwoods. There are some self guided trails to follow including the Naturally Playful trail which takes you round the hidden natural play areas. Family friendly activities available include orienteering, cryptic quizzes and a play area for the under 5`s. Family events throughout year. Westonbirt, The National Arboretum | Lodge Park is a 17th century grandstand built to observe deer coursing. A variety of walks are possible with views of River Windrush. You can follow the Sculpture Trail have a picnic or maybe go on a guided tour. At the Ewe Pen Barn there are information panels and a map of the walks incl. Short woodland stroll, family fun walk and Historic Farmland Hike. Lodge Park and Sherborne Estate | This park was opened in 1825 and is a large ornamental park. Within the park is the Pump Room a grade I listed building. The park itself is listed as a historic park and is grade II listed.
