| This castle situated on top of a wooded hill has lovely views across Exmoor and the Bristol Channel. Beautifully decorated rooms and a magnificent staircase inside. There is a small train to take you round the lakes and gardens. Refreshments available at the Hamilton Tea Rooms. Larger animals are now gone, you may see meerkats, a lemur or deer. | The ruins of this once grand Abbey stands in 36 acres of parkland. Surrounded in history and mystery, it is believed to be the burial place of King Arthur. Costumed guides from Mar-Oct help bring the Abbey to life. The outdoor summer cafe from May - Oct. Glastonbury Abbey | The remains of this castle lie on the border between Wiltshire and Somerset. Visitors may have a free audio tour which tells the stories of the gruesome past with the help of infomation panels. Open daily from Apr-Mar and weekends during winter. Farleigh Hungerford Castle | This is a working 18th century working Watermill. Learn how water power is used to grind flour. The finished flour is bagged up and sold. | You won`t see a castle here but an ancient hill fort that has long been associated with King Arthur (Was this Camelot?). Iron Age, Roman and Saxon artefacts have been found at the site. The nearest town in Yeovil and the neaest village is South Cadbury. Cadbury Castle in Wikipedia | The Abbey Church of Cleeve was destroyed by Henry VIII in 1536 but the cloister buildings, the gatehouse and the 15th century refectory with angel roof has survived intact. | This magnificent Elizabethan House has over 60 Tudor and Elizabethan portraits displayed in the long gallery. Period furniture and textiles are on view in the State rooms. You can walk around the formal gardens or wider estate. Family trails and traker packs available. House open Mar-Oct. Montacute House | The principal buildings were demolished in 1538 by Henry VIII. See the clearly laid out foundations of the abbey, the decorated cloister walk, the thatched monks lavatory and the 16th century abbots house with magnificent rooms. There is an interactive story bag for families. Open Apr-Oct. Muchelney Abbey | This castle was built in the 1370`s. The moat and the drawbridge were re-excavated around 1926 and you can see the moat full of water today. The tower is a four lobed structure with a turret on each corner. | An inspiring place to many this Tor has been said to be the home of the King of the Fairies. There are public footpaths across the Tor. | This watermill has been restored so that it is a working watermill. The water wheel weighs over two tonnes but can be turned from inside with only two fingers. There are traditional trades and crafts displayed including an authentic Blacksmith`s shop. Usually closed on Mon and Sat. Bishops Lydeard Mill | Visit the site of the battle of Sedgemoor (1685), the last battle fought on English soil, in Westonzoyland. Leaflets are available from the Tourist Information Centre. See the church of St Mary the virgin, the Sedgemoor Inn, the battlefield site and the memorial as you re-trace the steps of. the Duke of Monmouth and his rebels. | Free tours of the cathedral are given by expert guides all year round and last approx 1 hour. | Burcott Mill is one of the few remaining working water mills in the UK. Experience how flour was made back in the Victorian age. The water for the mill comes from the river Axe.
