  This shoe museum contains a collection of footwear from Roman times to present day and some shoe making machinery. See old Clarkes t.v. adverts and films on shoe making. Only open on weekdays 10.00 - 4.45pm. Shut on BH and over Christmas/New Year. Tel:01458 842169   The doll collection was started in 1957 by Mrs Mollie Hardwick. There are 700 dolls on display out of the 1,300 in the collection and many nostalgic related items too. The museum is cared for by volunteeers. Open from Easter to Sept. Dunster Dolls Museum   The Frome museum houses many local artefacts. Learn about the local crafts, industry and social history of Frome. See pre-war scrap books and research notes of the Knights Templar in Somerset. The Marston House Fire Engine is a favourite with children. Frome Museum

  West Somerset Rural Life Museum, Victorian School-room and West Somerset Photographic Archive are all housed here. The museum contains artefacts from clay pipes to ploughs. Find the original desks and benches from 1821 in the school-room, along with slates, text books and toys. Allerford Museum   Visitors can listen to Exmoor history recordings on an old fashioned telephone. You may also watch film clips or see some of the hundreds of photographs from the past. Open from mid-April. The Centre is shut during winter. Tel : 01398 323818   The Museum consists of 4 large halls, each hall has ground floor and upper levels. The story of Naval Aviation is told from helium filled airships, to seaplanes, bi-planes, the carrier borne aircraft of WWII and modern helicopters.   The museum is housed in a 15th century merchant`s house in Glastonbury high street along with the tourist information centre. Learn about life in an Iron-Age settlement, about 2000 years ago. Exhibits to see include a dugout canoe. Closed on Sundays. Glastonbury Lake Village Museum   The Somerset Rural Life Museum contains reconstructed rooms showing victorian life in rural Somerset. See the Victorian Farmhouse, farm buildings and orchard. Temporary exhibitions held. You will also find a museum shop and tea room. Closed on Mon, Sun and Good Friday. Somerset Rural Life Museum   King John`s Hunting Lodge is an early Tudor Merchants house from approximately the 1500`s. It is now used as a local history museum. There are occassional tours that start from the museum and inform you about historic Axbridge. From Open Apr - Sept, 1pm - 4pm. King John`s Hunting Lodge

  Follow the woodland path through the sea, marsh, moorland and farmyard areas. On route you will see lots of wooden sculptures including a pheasant. otter, owl, rat, and more. Regular carving demonstrations show a sculpture being made with a chainsaw and finished with hand tools. Wildlife in Wood   The Museum has a fossil collection with sheets explaining the geology of the area. Learn about Watchets maritime, military, railway and social history. See a display of iron-ore mining including a working model. There is also a video to watch. Open Easter-Oct. Watchet Museum   Learn all about the history of local boats. See many different types of flatner, nets and other items. There are activities for children such as block and tackle, where even a small child can lift alot more than expected. Open from Easter to Sept. Closed on Monday and Fridays. Watchet Boat Museum

  This family friendly museum is run by volunteers. There is a colouring table or bark rubbing to try. Alternatively enjoy the train set. The Museum has a cafe, tourist information office and toilet. Bruton Museum   The museum is housed in The Market House, a mid-Victorian building in the centre of the town. Agricultural, archaeological , historical information and artefats. Learn how ropes were made and see the loal fossils. Open April-Oct, closed on Sundays. Castle Cary & District Museum   The museum is dedicated to this local industry. At the museum you can watch the demonstrations on the methods and processes used to make a wide variety of bricks, tiles, terracotta plaques and more. Only open Tues-Thurs. Free entry.   The worlds largest dedicated helicopter museum. The museum has over 70 aircraft on display including helicopters and autogyros. There is a themed play area and interactive exhibits for smaller visitors. Check the website for events schedule including open cockpit days. Closed Mon & Tues. The Helicopter Museum   From the viewing gallery you can watch the various stages as the rich local milk is turned into authentc cheddar cheese. A 20min DVD also shows the process from start to finish. There is a taster bar where you can try the cheese. Open daily throughout year. Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company   An impressive collection of cars from around the world. There are over 400 cars to look at including Bentleys, Rolls Royces and Jaguars. For kids find an adventure playground, activity room, soft play fun bus and activity packs. Kids can find out how an engine works or race on the race track. Haynes Motor Museum

  The Gauge Museum is found on platform 1 and shows how the railway affected people who worked on and used the line. Try working the levers in a signal box yourself. There is also a working model railway. Normally open at weekends. West Somerset Railway Gauge Museum   Learn about the history of Bridgwater and the surrounding area through the relics displayed. The Museum honours the men who have lived or been connected with Bridgewater in particular Robert Blake. Activity worksheets available. Open Tues-Sat 10am-4pm. Closed in Winter. The Blake Museum   This volunteer run museum contains several important collections including John Stringfellow, a pioneer of powered flight and James Gillingham, an important maker of artificial limbs. Events held occasionally in summer months, check website. Open Apr-Oct Mon-Fri 10.30 - 4.30 and until 1pm on Sat. Chard Museum

  The museum illustrates the local history including industries, commerce, religion, education and domestic life. Of particular interest to children will be puzzles, weaving, the prisoner in his cell and a quiz.Open Apr-Oct Wed, Thurs, Fri 10.30-4pm and until 3pm on Sat.. Crewkerne and District Museum   There is free entry to the video room, the basket museum, the Levels and Moors Exhibition and Environmental display. Learn about the art and history of willow growing and basket-making. There is a courtyard tea room. Walks leaflet available in shop. Open Mon-Sat 9.30-5pm. English Willow Baket Visitor Centre   From archaeology of the earliest inhabitants to todays wildlife a vast range of topics is covered. Visit the cottage, set out as a 1900`s house, next door.   The museum is housed in a historic watermill. Find the largest collection of vintage plastics in Britain. Exhibits from the Inter-war period including Art Deco styles. See the pod caravan. There is also a museum cafe. Open from Easter-Oct Thurs-Sun 10.30-6pm. Open daily in school hols. The Bakelite Museum   The museum contains a number of collections and exhibitions that change regularly. There is a Brown Bears skull found at Wookey Hole, Stone Age tools and Iron Age artefacts. Minerals, fossils, fish from the jurassic and cave pearls. Also see miniature dolls, Mammoth tusks and ancient bones. Wells & Mendip Museum   This museum contains relics from the old joint Somerset and Dorset railway. See a number of exhibits including nameboard, lamps, tools, signalling equipment, tickets, photos, rolling stock and steam locomotives. Operate the levers in the reconstructed midford signal box.   The museum is in the old Radstock market hall. It contains a number of reconstructions including a coalface replica, a miners cottage, a victorian schoolroom and a village shop. There are many interactive and hands-on displays to help keep kids entertained. Closed on mondays. Radstock Museum   Thousands of articles including toys, books and games. There is a collection of televisions and over 500 radio`s. See a life size Dalek and a human size performing Homer Simpson. Usually open Apr-Oct but check before travelling.
